Known as the Billie Holiday of Iran, she is coming to Yoshi's, one of the most respected Jazz clubs in San Francisco. “Although Billie Holiday will never be far from my heart, this year my mp3 player was filled with the likes of Teddie Pendergrass, Al Green and a lot of that old 60’s soul vibe,” says Rana Farhan, “not that my compositions are similar, sometimes it’s just a flavor here or a phrase there…” Having studied Iranian Literature in Iran she has been able to create full albums on the best of Classical Persian poetry namely Rumi and Hafez. She has also composed beautiful singles based on New Persian Poetry. Our personal favorite is her single “Mahtab” based on Nima Youshij’s ground-breaking poetry.
