"Hi. My name is Jerry. Jerry Fels and The Jerry Fels is my band. I call it a band even though it's just me. If I wanted to keep things simple I suppose I could just go by "Jerry Fels", but there's already a lot of people out there going by just their names. You would think that all these people are also by themselves just like me, but actually many are supported by other musicians who do not receive credit in the "name" of the act, but without the presence of whom you might not like the music. Who would want to take a chance of being lopped in with them? And what's in a name, anyway? Is Neutral Milk Hotel not Jeff Mangum? Are the Mountain Goats not John Darnielle? Was Lady Gaga actually born Lady Gaga?
So I'll be Jerry Fels and The Jerry Fels, not just because I think it sounds better than "Jerry Fels", but also because, whenever you hear Jerry Fels and The Jerry Fels do something, whether I'm playing multiple instruments in concert or on recordings, you can rest assured that it's me.
