For our October edition of the Beautiful & The Damned we are doing a special Jackie Burroughs Toast. Jackie was a Canadian icon and one hell of an amazing woman, who was loved by many. Sadly we lost this wonderful woman on September 22, 2010 to cancer.
Featuring at Jackie's Toast will be:
Sandy Day is a recovering chatterbox living in Toronto, Ontario Canada. She graduated from Glendon College, York University, with a degree in English Literature sometime in the last century. Sandy took 20 years off from writing poetry to run a gift store and raise a family. Now happily unmarried and unemployed she finally has time to write. Sandy earns money for her cheese sandwiches by selling dog halters, managing social media marketing for several entrepreneurs, and editing whatever she can get her hands on. She lives with her darling son, two cats, and a scruffy Jane Russell Terrier. She published her first book, Chatterbox Poems, August 2011.
Rex Baunsit is an acoustic-punk singer/songwriter who combines a sense of fun with an introspective, politically charged mindset. NOW magazine has raved that “if you want politics with a dash of punk, Baunsit’s your man.” while fab magazine has reffered to him as "Toronto's queer music sweetheart." His influences range from Billy Bragg to Madonna, and from Liz Phair to Carole Pope. A regular on the local music circuit, his voice has been heard at Pride (on the Fruitloopz stage), Queer Idol, Metro Hall, The Gladstone, Buddies In Bad Times Theatre, Free Times Cafe, Slack's, and Goodhandy's. With a couple of self-released demo CDs under his belt, he has begun working on new material that he hopes to release as polished recordings in the near future.
