The community we live in is a vital part of our everyday lives. TAP-SF is partnering with NAAAP-SF to present to you 'Asian American Leaders in Government'. Here is your chance to meet local Asian American Leaders in government and ask them questions in a panel discussion about local issues, how they’ve developed their careers, and how Asian Americans can be more involved in government. This is a great opportunity to hear their candid feedback on various issues that will affect our everyday lives.

Confirmed Panelists:
David Chiu – David Chiu is a proud San Franciscan, currently serving his second term as President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In November 2008, David was elected as the Supervisor for District 3 – home to many diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, including North Beach, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Polk Street, Nob Hill, Union Square, the Financial District, the Barbary Coast and Fisherman's Wharf.

Senator Leland Yee - After serving four years in the California State Assembly, Leland Yee was elected to the State Senate in November in 2006 with the largest winning percentage for any Democratic candidate with a Republic challenger. During his tenure in Legislature, Senator Yee has fought for children, mental health services, working families, seniors, education, open government, consumer protection, civil rights, and the environment.

Captain Paul Michael Miyamoto – Captain Paul Michael Miyamoto is a San Francisco native, with a Chinese-American mother and a Japanese-American father. He has served in the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department (SFSD) for 15 years. Paul has consistently shown his commitment to improving the effectiveness of the SFSD. He has been certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training as an instructor for fellow deputies and staff. Paul has regularly engaged with the San Francisco community outside his duties with the SFSD.

Invited Panelists:
Edwin Lee - Ed Lee is the 43rd Mayor of San Francisco and the first Asian American Mayor in the City’s history. Ed Lee has served the people of San Francisco for 22 years in five different City Departments under four mayors. In January 2011, Ed Lee was appointed interim Mayor to complete the term of former Mayor and current Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. He’s made attracting and creating good jobs, keeping our streets safe and investing in our infrastructure his top priorities.
