The California Gold Rush of 1848 marked a time of feverish migration. All types of people from Tycoons to Bohemian visionaries flocked here on a quest for the American Dream. These “forty-niners” invigorated the landscape of California and helped transform San Francisco into a mecca for adventurous souls. San Francisco remains a fertile ground for individuality, eccentricity, and creative expression. It is in this spirit of exploration that Project One opened its exhibition space in 2008 with a focus on ambitious programming.
“California presented to people a new model for the American dream – one where the emphasis was on the ability to take risks, the willingness to gamble on the future” – Historian H.W. Brands
Gold is a universal symbol of purity, wealth, and success. From gold grills to gold chiffon, it speaks volumes throughout generations. Ancient Greeks spoke of it as a ratio for aesthetic equilibrium, the perfect balance of form. It is a precious metal that perpetually gains value and has been sought-after since before the dawn of recorded history. Art is gold.
Project One Gallery is celebrating their 3-year anniversary. This exhibition will serve as a commemoration of achievements, a celebration of figurative gold gained. 2008 has come to be known as the ‘dark times’ for the United States due to a recession that has affected the entire global economy. It is only through a steadfast vision and commitment to the arts community that Project One has managed to survive and conquer with hearts of gold. We have reveled in the opportunity to showcase precious metals-our artists and pioneers.
“Gold” will exhibit work by several artists who have been a continuous support and inspiration to Project One Gallery. Many different mediums will be represented, all with the common thread of solidity that form behind the ideals of ‘Gold’.
