Matt Norton, Studio Director, Bigpoint Inc.
Matt Norton joined Bigpoint in San Francisco as its Studio Director to help shape and guide the development of the company's high-end, IP-based online titles. Current projects include Battlestar Galactica Online, The Mummy Online, and Universal Monsters, as well as several other unannounced titles. Matt comes to Bigpoint with over 17 years of game production and international F2P operations experience. He's created titles as senior producer at companies such as Blizzard and Epic. Immediately prior to Bigpoint, Matt ran a portfolio of free-to-play games operated in Europe at GOA.com. Matt believes in the concept of "entertainment-as-a-service," where pre- and post-launch development efforts are closely aligned with what the game's community of users want.
Ann Burkett & Simon Amarasingham, Game Dojos Founders
Simon and Ann will talk about Game Dojos, a Game specific accelerator/incubator and the concept of "college for game companies" with the industry best giving workshops and mentoring. Applications are due Feb 15 and the response has been excellent with a class that will inspire each other. And of course there is the upcoming GDC IGDA party!
Johnny Liu, Head of Developer Program, NeuroSky
As a key member of NeuroSky's founding team, Johnny Liu has developed prototypes, development kits, and hardware/software frameworks for the last 7 years. These concepts have helped defined today's consumer Brain-Computer Interface. BCI Technology promises to revolutionize traditional gaming, by enhancing interactivity, increasing the mental benefits of gameplay, allowing machines to adapt to the players' mental states, and using insight into the brain for personal evolution. As the Head of NeuroSky's Developer Program, Johnny manages developer relations, eCommerce, and application development. He is excited about working with other creative minds, especially in the mobile space with NeuroSky's new mobile technologies.
David Rangel, COO Ansca Mobile
David Rangel is currently the COO of Ansca Mobile, where he oversees marketing, business development and operations. Ansca Mobile is the maker of Corona SDK, a development platform used by tens of thousands of developers worldwide to create rich, graphical mobile apps/games. Corona developers have created #1 games and apps in all the major app stores around the world. Previously, Rangel was founder and CEO at Daily Gourmet, Head of Merchant Services at Groupon, Principal at MK Capital and a Group Manager in the Corporate Strategy Group at Microsoft. He has an MBA from the University of Chicago and degrees in Computer Science and Economics from Northwestern University.
Steve Felter Chief Executive Officer GameSalad
Media and technology entrepreneur, Steve Felter is the CEO of GameSalad. Named to Entrepreneur Magazine's 2011 List of "100 Most Brilliant Companies," Gamesalad streamlines the game development process through a powerful game creation platform that enables developers to easily create a game and quickly publish to Android, iOS, and HTML5. Since its initial launch in 2009, more than 250,000 GameSalad developers have used the powerful drag-and-drop game creation platform to create more than 20,000 iOS and web games. Before joining GameSalad, Steve oversaw operations for Disney's first in-house social media division, implementing social media strategies for Disney's top brands including Pixar, ESPN, and Disney Interactive Studios.
Ben Savage, CEO, Sibblingz Spaceport
Ben is the CEO of Sibblingz Spaceport leads the high performance game engine Spaceport. Spaceport provides arguably the clearest path for Flash game developers to go to native mobile and HTML5 export, even providing a conversion tool to help. Spaceport is also the only new 2d engine to boast resizeable SVG graphics instead of bitmap only, minimizing the cost, time and effort to resize or remake graphics for various screen sizes on different devices, and with all the new tablets and TV's out there this may become increasingly important. Previous to Spaceport, Ben lead teams to build hit games for Crowdstar and his own original company Sibblingz and has a math degree from Stanford.
Tracy Erickson, Developer Relations, Unity Technologies
Tracy joined Unity Technologies in 2011 where he focuses on developer outreach and support across mobile, console, and web platforms. In addition, he manages the games portfolio for Union, Unity's content division that that helps developers publish games on new and emerging platforms such as smart TVs and set-top boxes.
Prior to Unity, Tracy spent more than a decade writing about games as a journalist. As Apple Editor and US Correspondent for UK publication Pocket Gamer, he gained recognition for his critical analysis of the mobile games industry. His writing can be seen in a variety of other publications including GamePro, GamesRadar, and Prima Games.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest where he attended Lewis & Clark College, Tracy now resides in San Francisco.
Allen Ellison, VP, Senior Solutions Architect, Adobe
Allen Ellison, Senior Solutons Architect at Adobe will talk with us about what's coming up in both Flash and HTML5 in games and apps with some a quick practical overview of the realities of putting games and apps on TV. Allen Ellison is a Senior Solutions Architect at Adobe, and is helping developers to bring their games to digital television platforms, having helped Adobe customers with multi-platform solutions in both gaming and video — including the MLB and a billboard in times square.
Jim Ying is SVP, Publishing for 6L(6waves Lolapps),
6L (6waves Lolapps) leading publisher of independent games on social networks and mobile devices. Jim Ying oversees developer outreach, product management and growing 6waves' network of 30+ million monthly active users. Prior to joining 6waves, he served as Director of Product at GameHouse,
the casual games division of RealNetworks. He has also spent time on the core gaming side of the industry, having managed titles in the Halo and Age of Empires franchises at Microsoft Xbox. Jim holds a BA from Williams College and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern.
Lucas Wang, CEO of Mugeda
Lucas Wang is co-founded of Mugeda, with his brother Mac Wang. Before founding Mugeda, Lucas was the co-founder of Cleeki, Inc, a software company focusing on Internet and mobile. Cleeki released the award wining AniWeather, a Flash App with over 7 million downloads. Lucas's previous employers include Microsoft, Motorola and Dolby. Lucas obtained his Ph.D. in E.E. from Columbia University.
Mugeda is a cloud based HTML5 animation platform, where you can create, share, and publish organic HTML5 animation contents, all in your browser, without any download or installation.
