On September 22nd, the Goliga imprint released its first publication, ACCIDENT, a photobook by Daido Moriyama. To commemorate the book's release, I am thrilled to announce Goliga's next project with Moriyama. On November 4th & 5th, Moriyama will re-stage his legendary 1974 performance PRINTING SHOW at the Aperture Gallery, New York.
This is a ticketed event with limited availability. For tickets and information about the event please Aperture's site:
http://www.aperture.org/gallery/index-moriyama.php
I will be posting updates and live photos of the event on
www.Goliga.com and here on Facebook.
The original staging of PRINTING SHOW was held in 1974 in Tokyo. In lieu of mounting photographic prints on the walls of the gallery, Moriyama instead brought in a photocopy machine and silk screen printing station. Using this equipment, he generated an ad hoc photobook composed of photocopied sheets staple-bound with a silk screen cover. That book was called Another Country in New York, making use of photographs that he shot while in New York City in the winter of 1971. In this 2011 re-staging, Moriyama will produce a photobook, which will be titled TKY, featuring work shot in Tokyo over the last ten years. Also, attendees to the event will be able to edit and sequence their own copy of TKY, choosing from a menu of 54 double-sided sheets and two cover options. Moriyama will sign and number each copy of TKY. The edition is limited to 500.
Depending on availability, there MAY be a few copies of TKY available AFTER the event. Let me know if you are interested and I will put your name on the list. Again, this does not guarantee a copy. It is a waiting list.
On November 3rd, from 6:30pm, the Japan Society will host "An Evening with Daido Moriyama." Christopher Phillips, Curator, International Center of Photography, will lead a discussion with Moriyama about PRINTING SHOW, his prolific output of photobooks, and Moriyama's recent color work. Please visit the Japan Society website for more information and tickets.
ACCIDENT is currently on view as an installation at the Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo. ACCIDENT will also be on view in New York.
