Prof. Kevin Werbach (The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania)
Gamification--or the use of game features in non-game settings--has been embraced by the commentariat, by hipsters and hypesters, and increasingly by business. Werbach will examine the uses of gamification in business settings, and explain the positive and negative aspects to these uses. He will also discuss his experience of teaching the first business school class on gamification, a class where b-school students actually engaged (fairly seriously) in game design. Depending on time and OSHA regulations, he will conclude by juggling flaming chainsaws. If this isn't possible, he will talk about some of the ethical and psychological issues with the widespread acceptance of gamification as a business practice.
