The shift to digital storytelling is dramatically changing the types of stories and the ways we tell them. If analog media was dominated by top-down corporate storytelling, digital media also enables bottom-up storytelling as we saw in the Arab Spring and the current Occupy movements, which are using social media to spread the word and tell their stories.
Transmedia -- the convergence of bottom-up social media technologies and top-down mass media business models - is one of the most exciting new media developments for creatives due to the proliferation of mobile videos, tablets and cloud services. Silicon Valley technology companies are creating the new "stages" where digital storytellers can showcase their "plays." Creatives from any background, whether a poet, fashion designer, painting, sculptor, animator, gamer or filmmaker, can tell his/her story using one medium, then expand into other media. Transmedia is not only open and multipath, it also enables more active online and offline collaboration.
Where are the opportunities for individual artists, students, educators and small businesses? Where will the next new ventures emerge? What can you do to tell your story using transmedia approaches?
Talenthouse and Renaissance SF are pleased to present a provocative panel discussion with top media creators who will discuss the opportunities, challenges and implications of transmedia and ways to position yourself so you can build and monetize your creative talents. They will explore the different entry points and strategies, build-out options, and collaboration models.
