Mission Dolores Basilica Choir will perform its 20th Annual Candlelight Christmas Concert, “Behold The Star!”, on Sunday, December 18, 2011. The concert will begin at 5 p.m. in the Basilica, Dolores and 16th streets, San Francisco.
Under the direction of conductor Jerome Lenk, the presentation will feature highlights from the choir’s first two decades of concerts, including C. Hubert H. Parry’s "I Was Glad", Morten Lauridsen’s "O Magnum Mysterium", and selections from around the world including Spain, France and the Philippines. Also featured will be accompanist Heather Heise in a Bach Harpsichord Concerto with strings.
The beautiful acoustics of the Basilica will enhance the sounds of the internationally renowned choir, the resident community choir of Mission Dolores, one of the 21 California Missions established by Father Junipero Serra in the 18th Century.
Auxiliary Bishop William Justice of San Francisco is an ardent supporter of the choir. “Their artistry is unparalleled among church-based choirs in San Francisco,” says the former pastor of Mission Dolores Basilica. “Their Christmas concert is the perfect way to usher in the joy of the season,” he adds.
Tickets are $25 reserved, $20 general admission, and are available at Mission Dolores by calling 415.621.8203 or visiting the website at
