– The Association for Women in Communications South Florida chapter (AWC SF), in partnership with Social Media Club of Palm Beach County (SMCPBC), Clematis Street Tweetup - West Palm Beach, Social Media Roundup, New Tech Community, Kiwanis Young Professionals of the Palm Beaches and LongBoards Restaurant, will host the 3rd annual “Toys for Tweets” fundraising event on Thursday December 15th , 2011 to benefit the national “Toys for Tots” charitable organization. The innovative event aims to collect toys and donations for underprivileged children for the holidays, using social media to advance the cause. The mentioned organizations seek to leverage the viral nature of the social media communications to raise awareness of the cause, spread word of the event, and drive attendance and donations.
As social media gains influence, the AWCSF, one of the largest and most active chapters of the century-old Association for Women in Communications, has embraced social media networking and education to assist its members in staying at the cutting edge of the rapidly-evolving communications industry. Now, the organizations are putting social media to work to improve not only their members’ careers, but to positively impact the community as well.
“It is a great privilege and honor to participate in the United States Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program and their mission of giving without expecting anything in return; it showcases the kindness of the human soul” said Dana M. Lawrence, President of AWC South Florida. “The primary goal of this event is to bring a smile to disadvantaged children in the Palm Beach County community. It is very important to remember the kids and communicate to the children in need that they are loved and wanted.”
