Peer Educators Needed!!! South LA is disproportionately plagued with sexually transmitted infections (STIs). According to supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, “STD levels in the Second Supervisorial District are the highest in the County, with hot spots centered in South Los Angeles”. It especially affects the youth of our community. Black Women for Wellness is committed to eradicating the burden of health disparities that our community carries, and we need your help to do it! Specific to the substantially higher incidence of STDs in South LA, we are teaming up with the Los Angeles county department of STDs to work on the I Know Campaign as well as our own Get Smart B4U Get Sexy Campaign. Here is where you come in, we are looking to train peer educators on reproductive justice and comprehensive sexuality to go out into the community and provide valuable information to the youth in order to promote safer sex and reduce the transmission of STIs. *STI= Sexually Transmitted Infection (new language) / STD= Sexually Transmitted Disease Fact: The Second District has the highest number of cases of Chlamydia and gonorrhea among young women ages 15-24. In 2010, 7,365 cases chlamydia cases and 1,167 gonorrhea cases were reported for female residents of the Second District ages 15-24
