CHAMPS Drama Academy presents the second installment of the Senior Director's Lab. Directed by Senior Drama student Kyle Rogers, Sarah Ruhl's play Eurydice is a fiercely contemporary retelling of the Ancient Greek myth Orpheus and Eurydice. In the myth, Orpheus, the world's first musician, marries his wife Eurydice, who dies on their wedding day. However, rather than focus on the quest of Orpheus to win his wife back, Ruhl's play is centered on the personal journey of Eurydice as she navigates her new existence in the Underworld. As humorous as it is tragic, Eurydice blends dramatic structure with poetry and the contemporary with the classical. Blended with hints of autobiography, Ruhl paints a unique portrait of a woman often left in the shadows of her more famous husband.
The play is in one act, and will last no more than 90 minutes. There will be no intermission. The production is completely student produced, with the advisement of Drama Academy co-chairs Anthony Cantrell and Dawn Lisell. FREE ADMISSION.
