...Axial tilt; the Reason for the Season...
The northern hemisphere is settling in for its winters nap
And I am full of ancient anxieties;
“I heard there was no solstice party”,
And maybe the sun will not return as well.
For thousands of years, humans
have fought the fear, stress and sadness
that seems to come with the cold,
with feasts of hope, forgiveness, and gratitude.
Here, in the mild maritime metropolis,
we are spared the worst of winters
threat and chill, and yet,
and still,
the days are short,
the fog is thick,
there is a lot of shade,
there are a lot of shadows.
Yes, Muriel. There is no 'Solstice Party',
so we are celebrating Saturnalia instead.
This year we couldn’t wait
and we wanted something new;
we borrowed a page from pagan Rome.
Welcome to our winter's bonding ritual.
It is time for our star, our spark, our sustenance to come back.
Please join us Friday, December 16th, Saturnalia,
the feast that begins the weeks of feasting.
A bunch of folk you know invite you
to an evening of community majick.
