Please join the JMVA team this coming Wednesday (12/21) for our first annual toy drive! You can stop by after work to drop off a toy, then warm up inside with a cup of coffee while meeting new friends.
Who We Are Serving
We are collecting toys for low-income families in the Bronx who are served by the Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development (MWIRD). Toys will go to neighborhood children who are participants in the Open Market Backpack Program (Children’s Pantry). Our goal is to have at least one present for each enrolled child. In the past that goal has been met, but this year one week out from the gift distribution MWIRD has only 40 or so items on hand and nearly 200 children in need.
The MWIRD runs a food pantry that has served community members in the Bronx for over ten years. Sadly, they are facing closure at the end of this year due to lack of funding. The Daily News has more:

What to Bring
Please bring gifts in their original packaging and do NOT gift wrap them. Children in the program range in age from 4 to 18, with most between the ages of 7 and 12. There are about equal numbers of boys and girls. Children’s winter clothes and accessories are always a safe bet, as are gender-neutral toys like Legos or coloring books and markers.
