Thanks to everyone for making 2011 a great year for Drink for a Cause!! We raised a ton of money and helped a lot of people through many organizations from the earthquake and flood relief in Japan to the refugees of North Korea through LiNK to the victims of slavery and human trafficking at the Freedom House and more. We're kicking off 2012 with an equally important cause that we've supported in the past, the Asian American Donor Program (AADP). And by supporting them, we are helping to save lives.
The Asian American Donor Program is dedicated to increasing the availability of potential stem cells donors for patients with life threatening diseases curable by a stem cell transplant. AADP is a community non-profit (501c3) organization geared towards saving lives. They are an official recruitment group of the Be the Match Registry, formerly the National Marrow Donor Program, specialized in conducting outreach and donor registration drives in the Asian, Pacific Islander, and Multi-racial communities. AADP now outreaches to the entire ethnic minority community.
Many of us have been touched directly by people in need of bone marrow transplants. We hope that many of you will support the AADP not only with the donations of $5 or more at the door, but that you will consider registering for the donor registry. All it takes is one swab of your cheek with a q-tip. That swab could potentially save a life if you're a match for someone in need. Asians are the most under-represented minorities in the donor registry and patients need ethnic matches. Let's start to reverse that trend.
We'd also like to introduce Mark Trang as one of our new hosts! Please introduce yourself to Mark if you see him at DFAC.
