"In the tradition of the Maysles brothers, Greene films without comment and leaves it to the viewer to draw conclusions... A strong viewing and listening experience!"
- Robert Kohler, VARIETY
"If you're looking for a film to take the piss out of wrestling and laugh at the aspirations of working class dreamers, look elsewhere. Instead, FAKE IT SO REAL provides something far more vital and moving; an examination of the fantasy lives of men whose experiences and aspirations are rarely articulated in the cinema."
- Tom Hall, HAMMER TO NAIL

FAKE IT SO REAL is an entertainingly vivid and surprisingly poignant peek into the Southern circuit of independent pro wrestling. Directed by Robert Greene (KATI WITH AN I) and co-photographed by Sean Price Williams (THE COLOR WHEEL), the documentary hit of True/False, Rooftop Films and CPH:DOX makes its NYC theatrical premiere with a week-long run, January 13 - 19.
Filmed over a pivotal week leading up to Saturday's main event, FAKE IT SO REAL follows a ragtag group of wrestlers in North Carolina, exploring what happens when their over-the-top theatrics in the ring collide with the realities of the working-class South. Young rookie Gabriel aspires for the Big Time, and to gain acceptance within this close-knit family of tough guys. Troupe leader Jeff may miss his first show in a decade due to a debilitating injury. With elaborate backstories and flamboyant costumes, J-Prep, Zane, Pitt, Solar and the rest of the crew each face their own obstacles on their way to the top.
They aren't paid for their passion, but these weekend warriors treat wrestling like painters do canvas. Delivering all the grit, spit, sweat, dirt and blood inherent to its subject, FAKE IT SO REAL affectionately honors this brotherhood's physical feats, artistic triumphs, and unending dreams.
94 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated. A Factory 25 release.
