Hello Friends and Family,
As most of you know last summer I participated in a 200 mile bike ride as a fundraiser for local and global agencies that do HIV prevention and support for those with HIV/AIDS. It was an absolutely amazing experience for sure and with your help I raised $4000.
This year I've up'ed the ante and am doing TWO rides. Yes, TWO rides!
AIDS/LIFECYLCE: The first ride is the AIDS/LifeCyle, a 545 mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast Highway over a 7 day period, June 3-9. I've joined Team Windy City Rock Stars, a group of us from Chicago and I've committed to raising $3000 for this cause.
RFAC2012: The second ride is what I did last summer, Ride For AIDS Chicago, a 200 mile ride from Chicago to Lauderdale Lake, WI and back, July 14-15. As well as being a rider, I was also invited to join the executive committee for this event as a Co-Chair for planning and coordinating the opening and closing ceremonies. I am co-captain of Team CUR(Chicago Urban Riders) along side fellow co-captains Jorge Partida and Jaime Arroyo. I've committed to raising $5000 for this ride.
Progress is being made towards ending this disease once and for all. It may not be tomorrow but everything we do takes us closer to that day. Here is a quote from the UNAIDS World AIDS Day Report 2011:
"There were 2.7 million [2.4 million–2.9 million] new HIV infections in 2010, including an estimated 390,000 among children. This was 15% less than in 2001, and 21% below the number of new infections at the peak of the epidemic in 1997.
The number of people becoming infected with HIV is continuing to fall, in some countries more rapidly than others."
I have committed myself to raising $8000 and I am inviting you to be a part by making a financial donation to either one or both of the rides that I am doing.
