From award-winning comedian Sara Benincasa comes "AGORAFABULOUS! Dispatches from My Bedroom" (William Morrow; On-sale February 14, 2012) a hilarious, raw and poignant memoir of how a terrified young woman trapped by her own imagination left behind the box-like confines of agoraphobia to become a high-functioning professional smartass.
Sara Benincasa’s struggle with panic disorder began with childhood anxiety attacks and intensified until, at the age of twenty-one, she developed full-on agoraphobia. Her fears were so severe she was afraid to leave her own bedroom. She sank into suicidal depression. Garbage piled up against the wall as her appetite for food—and life—slipped away. Finally, two college friends contacted Sara’s family out of fear for her safety and state of mind. With the help of friends and family, therapy and drugs Sara began to build a new life and move away from the darkness.
Today, Sara Benincasa is an internationally touring comedian, as well as a writer, blogger and podcast host. The writer and star of the one-woman show Agorafabulous!, she has appeared throughout the media and was a citizen-journalist for the 2008 MTV Choose or Lose Street Team. Sara hosts the web series "Gettin’ Wet with Sara B" and the popular podcast "Sex and Other Human Activities." She lives in New York City. More info, photos, and videos available at:
