Be 1 In A Million -- Uniting the Cancer Community for Change!\n
The Million Cancer Survivor March is the first ever attempt to
organize an anti-cancer march and rally in Washington\, DC.\n
 \n
 America&#039\;s cancer population\, a nation of patients\,
 survivors\, caregivers\, friends\, families\, advocates and
organizations\, all citizens affected by all types of cancer\,
will gather in Washington D.C. at the National Mall to mark this
historic event on June 1\, 2014. The MCSM offers an opportunity
for our country’s cancer community to rally at our Nation’s
Capitol and show the leaders of our country that we are one group
united to compel changes to end all cancers.\n
 \n
Nearly 12 million people nationwide are living with cancer. By
the year 2020\, the number of cancer survivors in the US is
expected to double. They have faced a diagnosis and survived the
treatments\, therefore labeled “survivors.” As for the more
than half a million that lost their life to cancer last year
alone\, they left behind countless numbers of grieving loved
ones. We are the cancer population\, living with the
after-effects of a cancer diagnosis. We share one belief:
 Something has to change. \n
 \n
Cancer accounts for nearly 1 in 4 deaths in the US. If it isn’t
you\, it’s someone you know. This disease kills well over half
a million people every year and costs our country millions of
dollars to treat annually. Yet our government\, the number-one
funder of cancer research has drastically cut budgets for the
National Institutes for Health\, the National Cancer Institute
and the Centers of Disease Control\, thus limiting prevention and
research for all cancers. The National Institutes of Health
estimates overall costs of cancer in 2010 at $263.8 billion:
$102.8 billion for direct medical costs (total of all health
expenditures)\; $20.9 billion for indirect morbidity costs (cost
of lost productivity due to illness)\; and $140.1 billion for
indirect mortality costs (cost of lost productivity due to
premature death) according to the American Cancer Society. Modern
science has made advances in survivability\, but it doesn’t end
with being a survivor. The treatments\, which are sometimes
ineffective and even deadly\, put survivors at risk of developing
new forms of cancer\, new diseases\, other health issues and the
possibility of reoccurrence is still there. Some patients don’t
have access to the best treatment by means of seeking and having
access to specialists because of insurance or lack there of (the
Affordable Care Act doesn’t come into affect until 2014).
Cancer\, before\, during and after treatment\, can cause
financial burdens\, forcing people to stop treatment\, lose their
jobs\, their homes and even declare bankruptcy. At what point
will we stop putting a bandaid on cancer and find a cure\, find
better ways to detect it and treat it early and with less harmful
methods? Our Nation’s leaders want our votes\, and we want them
to end the War on Cancer!\n
 \n
The Million Cancer Survivors March is free\, a signature event by
Kill The Beast in partnership with Pink Sky At Night. It is not
affiliated with any cancer organization and is working
independently as concerned American citizens to organize an
anti-cancer march and rally in Washington\, DC. \n
