Coffee Society is located in the same courtyard as the Camera 7 movie theatre in the Pruneyard shopping center.
Songwriter showcases occur regularly on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Rebecca Parks hosts and invites different guest songwriters each time.
On January 17, guests are Caroline Garbarino and the DTs (Dave Allender and Tom Gewecke).
Caroline Garbarino (www.doriswilliams.com) studied guitar, vocal harmony, and songwriting with Palo Alto recording artist Carol McComb. Caroline’s music career began in 2002 with performances of gospel and folk-rock songs for services at Unity Palo Alto Community Church. Since then, she has been playing guitar and percussion, and writing songs for “Celtic Rose,” a duo with vocalist Doris Williams. A versatile performer, she also sings rock ‘n’ roll with a San Jose band, Mike Buczek’s “Summer of Love.”
San Jose’s acoustic duo the DTs formed when Dave Allender and fellow singer-songwriter Tom Gewecke met at an open mic and formed a band. The DTs have resurfaced with original material that blends rock, folk, and blues. The group features Dave on guitar and vocals and Tom on guitar, ukulele, and vocals.
Rebecca Parks (www.rebeccaparksmusic.com) writes award-winning songs that set scenes, tell stories, and dramatize conversations. She has introspective vulnerability and a folk/rock sensibility with a theatrical touch. Her lyrics are sharp, her melodies memorable. She resembles Joan Baez in her vocal tone and her elegant piano playing is reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan.
