For our first real meetup of the new year, we'll be meeting at our old hangout, Galaxy Cafe in the Triangle. As our restaurant meetups usually are, this will be a social gathering, giving everyone a chance to meet, mingle and network. So be sure to bring our business cards, and anything else you want to share or get feedback on- your own work or otherwise.
But to have at least some kind of specific purpose to this gathering, I'm choosing a topic of discussion that hopefully will be of interest to many of us in design: typography. If you're new to design and want to talk about typography to learn more and ask questions, or if you're already experienced in and just want to gab with others like you, this will be a good night to come out.
To sweeten the deal, I'll have a couple of door prizes to give away. One is the BonFX Big Book of Font Combinations, a 370-page digital eBook that helps designers pick just the right combinations of fonts for any style, any project. Valued at $25, I'll have one or two copies of that to giveaway.
I'll also give away a huge physical book, the nearly-600-page "A-Z Open Type Typeface Catalog" which catalogs fonts from Monotype, Linotype and ITC. Not sure what this big thing is valued at.
