About the Artists
Violinist Cathy Heithaus (SCO principal second violin) graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in Music. She’s a member of the Salem Chamber Orchestra, the Linfield Orchestra, the Portland Opera, and the OSU-Corvallis Orchestra, and plays chamber music on the Camerata Series, as well as many other gigs.
Cellist Jenny Gleason (SCO cello) graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Music in performance. She is a member of the Salem Chamber Orchestra and performs chamber music on the Camerata Series. She spends her non-musical hours with her five year-old son, Evan.
Pianist Carole Orloff, B.A., M.A. Musicology from Stanford University, has performed on the Camerata Series with Ensemble des Amis, and accompanies a number of musicians in Salem. She was the Artistic Director of Chamber Music Corvallis for 15 years, and the Director of both the Smith Fine Arts Series at Western Oregon University and the Salem Chamber Orchestra.
Theresa Schumacher, an Oregon native, attended the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she studied with acclaimed clarinetists, David Shifrin and Mitchell Lurie, and won the music school’s award for Best Wind Player upon earning her Bachelor’s. In her high school and college years, she took top awards at both statewide and national levels. To date, she is the only clarinetist to have won three consecutive first places at the Oregon State Solo Contest. After graduating from USC, Theresa took an almost 20-year break from clarinet; exploring other instruments, singing opera, and generally learning other lessons in life. In 2007, she was inspired by a good friend to blow the dust off her ‘nets and return to her best instrument. Theresa has performed with ensembles both in the Los Angeles area, during her college years, and more recently, throughout the state of Oregon. She is currently a regular member of the Portland Opera Orchestra and also can be heard with Eugene Symphony, Portland Columbia Symphony, Newport Symphony, Corvallis Symphony and Eugene Opera Orchestra. Theresa lives in Eugene, where she is co-director of Kindred Spirits Retreat Center, an interfaith spiritual retreat center, and also enjoys performing on piano, Native American flute and Celtic harp.
