Dear friends,
Happy New Year! We have a very exciting new program of our Tango-Fado Project:
- Tue. Jan. 31, at 7:30pm at (le) Poisson Rouge with Binelli, Ferman, Caruso, da Silva, and other members of the Manhattan Camerata: Nathalie Pires, one of the greatest fado singers of her generation; Pedro Giraudo on bass; and Amanda Lo on violin.
Daniel Binelli internationally renowned master of the bandoneon, arranger and composer is the torch bearer of the music of Piazzolla.
Polly Ferman has been hailed by the Japan Times as " Musical Ambassador of the Americas"
Lucia Caruso is the founder and artistic director of the Manhattan Camerata, and a pianist and composer whose music has been featured in several films and been performed all over the world.
Pedro da Silva is an eclectic composer who teaches courses at NYU and MoMA, and has performed in over a dozen countries on 18 different instruments. He is the music director of the Manhattan Camerata.
Performing a special concert of Argentine Tango and Portuguese Fado, the Manhattan Camerata blends the unique sounds of bandoneón and Portuguese guitar. Although Tango and Fado originate in two distant countries, they are closely related in harmony, melody and theme while differing in rhythm and language. The Manhattan Camerata explores the connections between the two genres with the music of Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Paredes, Binelli, as well as original compositions.
The Manhattan Camerata is an innovative chamber orchestra that seamlessly weaves original compositions, world music, and European period music together, to produce a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic. Performances integrate the Western classical chamber orchestra with several instruments from around the world (Portuguese guitar, sitar, koto, darbuka, bandoneón, among others), in a wide variety of musical styles (including tango, fado, Indian music, and flamenco).
We hope you can join us!
Happy 2012,
Manhattan Camerata
