This event will be a screening of "Dive!" - a 50 minute documentary about food waste. Inspired by a curiosity about our country's careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, the multi-award-winning film follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles' supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food - resulting in an inspiring documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerrilla journalism and call to action.
This event will be hosted by Dana Frasz, Founder and Director of Food Shift and Sarah Nelson, founder of Three Squares. Food Shift is an organization in Oakland working to reduce food waste. Three Squares is a nonprofit that teaches free cooking and nutrition classes to low-income families to help them eat healthy food on a tight budget.
The event is free but donations are graciously accepted. We will have food, drink and will be hosting a $2 per ticket raffle including Ecover cleaning products, Fair Trade Treats, Fearless Chocolate, Rally water bottles and Back to the Roots mushroom kits.
Gotham Wines, Lagunitas Brewery & Numi Organic Tea are providing beverages for the event, Fearless Chocolate is sampling their delicious chocolate and our friends at Feel Good will be making grilled cheese sandwiches with a purpose. If possible, please bring a cup and plate for the evening so we can reduce the number of disposable items needed for the event.
