** LATEST UPDATE: We have managed to secure a bigger room. We are opening up more seats now--please feel free to sign up! ** Join Phil Porras from SRI International as he shares his experiences in deploying secure software-defined networks (SDNs) and discuss upcoming technologies developed by SRI to reduce the risk of deploying SDNs. Phil will also provide attendees with a sneak peek at an OpenFlow security project in progress at SRI. Following Phil's presentation, Matthew Davy and Chris Small from Indiana University's InCNTRE, who are in charge of one of the largest real-world deployments of SDNs and OpenFlow, will be on-hand to kick-off a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session discussing the security implications of software-defined networks. We encourage networking and security professionals involved with OpenFlow initiatives at their organizations to come join us for a night of lively discussion and ideas exchange. The BoF will wrap up with a mixer organized by Wiretap Ventures with the support of Indiana University, SRI, and SDNCentral. Drinks and light appetizers will be served. For those interested in learning more about software-defined networking and the advent of programmable networks, Indiana University and Wiretap Ventures are jointly organizing educational sessions on Feb 28th and Feb 29th. Visit the following event pages for more details: What Every Business Executive & Investor Needs to Know About SDN & OpenFlow Real-World Security Implications of Software-Defined Networks and OpenFlow The goal of the BoF is to connect OpenFlow practitioners with security concerns. As such, vendor participation is welcomed but will accommodated only on a space-available basis. About the presenter: Phil Porras is Program Director of systems security research in the Computer Science Laboratory at SRI International, and has been a Principal Investigator for many research projects sponsored by DARPA, DoD, NSF, NSA, and others. He was recently featured in Mark Bowden's book "Worm" about the Conficker worm. Phil continues to actively research malware, publishing and conducting technology development in intrusion detection, alarm correlation, malware analysis, active networks, and wireless security. Previously, Phil was a manager in the Trusted Computer Systems Department of the Aerospace Corporation, where he was also an experienced trusted product evaluator for NSA (which includes security testing, risk assessment, and penetration testing of systems and networks). Phil has participated on numerous program committees, and editorial boards, and on multiple commercial company technical advisory boards.
