In her first ever appearance at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Justine McInerney is engaging and pro awkwardness.
Better known as JMAC, she is high on life. Her energetic, in your face style has been known to stir many laughs, as she speaks, sings and shows that social awkwardness happens to absolutely everyone.
A tongue-in-cheek depiction of everyday life invites the audience to feel sympathetically uncomfortable. Whether it’s a private moment, “dropping your toothbrush in the toilet brush holder and just using it anyway” or a public moment, “bumping into someone you’ve denied as a friend on Facebook,” JMAC discusses all facets of life – nothing goes unspoken.
Hailing from Adelaide but now a true Melburnian, JMAC from a young age had a natural flair for performing and storytelling. Winning a talent quest in high school with a stand-up comedy routine ignited JMAC’s passion for the stage. It was only after being told that she was ‘weird’ during a corporate job interview, that JMAC thought, ‘That’s awkward. I can use this.’
JMAC hosts for Nova 100 radio as a Casanova in Melbourne and is known for her antics on the previously aired nationwide television show Taken Out. She has performed stand up in Sydney and Hobart and recently co-hosted the T20 Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades cricket team at Etihad Stadium.
Her observational style will have you in stitches as she fleshes out situations that almost every member of the audience will have found themselves in.
Whether you’re laughing with her, or at her, she doesn’t seem to mind. This is set to be a good night.
