About Wanto, Greg and Erik
It might have been the year 2006 when Wanto and Greg met randomly in pitoresque Eindhoven. After Greg crashed on Wanto’s couch, they became friends at first sight, combined their art and crap, have traveled Berlin, Bali and the Netherlands together, Greg moved in for 5 months and now have a child called Collaboratorium (in random order).
Wanto (Indonesian allround creative living Amsterdam) and Greg (Australian architect living in Sydney) believe in silly things like passion, talent, joining forces, and inspiring each other. Just for the fun and sake of creation. When you share your best idea with someone, you’ll get a better one right back at you. Depending on that someone of course...
Wanto pays his bills working as a freelancing identity designer and copywriter. He makes music with friends and writes poems at night (
www.wanto.nl). Greg is an architect and travels through Africa (the continent) at night.
For this Collaboratorium exhibition Wanto expanded his collaboration with Erik van der Pluijm (Amsterdam based Illustrator an Concept Artist). For the very first time they will collaborate together and create a new work on the doorway of The House of Rising.
About COLLABORATORIUM
Wanto sends short handwritten texts to Greg. Then Greg makes drawings to go with those texts. To make it really fun, Greg sends Wanto drawings. Then Wanto writes a text to go with that drawing.
Greg and Wanto don't have important meetings where they plan, conceptualize or strategize about their work. They just play questions and answer in their imaginarium, like some kind of jazz musicians. Not knowing what Wanto will come up with on his drawings is what matters to Greg. Being surprised with the drawings that Greg comes up with on his texts is all the reward Wanto needs for doing this project.
Wanto and Greg mass produced about 80 Collaboratorium pieces in limited edition. Most people probably never saw their previous exhibitions, but a lot of people ask if they can buy the Collaboratorium work on T-shirts. Nobody knows what the future will be, except the Maya's. So we will have to wait and see if there is ever going to be a feature film about Collaboratorium.
