On Tuesday, January 31 the World Affairs Council is proud to celebrate global engagement and awareness through a program highlighting 60 years of the World Affairs Council and our World Citizen and World Educator awards. Each year, the World Affairs Council bestows our prestigious World Citizen and World Educator awards on two individuals from our state who have contributed significantly to public understanding of international relations, community involvement in world affairs, and local understanding of cultures, societies and economies from around the world. This year’s celebration will honor Julia Bolz as the recipient of the 2011 World Citizen Award for her outstanding leadership in working to provide education for young girls in Afghanistan and Lisa Clarke as the recipient of the 2011 World Educator Award for her significant contributions to promoting international understanding in the classroom.
Our celebration will start with the award ceremony, and will be followed by a keynote address from President Jimmy Carter, who will highlight the work of The Carter Center as he discusses the role we play in the world and the importance of global engagement.
