Please join us Wednesday, February 22nd for the second installment of "Code Social", presented by AnythingSocial and FoodCalc and sponsored by Dasher Technologies, ModCloth and TaskRabbit. We are extremely excited to once again be able to bring to you a series of in depth technical and user engagement presentations by some of the top developers in the industry. As always catered food and drinks will be provided by the hosts. Speakers & Sessions: · Erich Nachbar: Scale with Pub/Sub · Darius Contractor: Nurturing Interest · Kiranmayi Bhattaram: Backbone.js and Rails Speaker Bios & Abstracts Erich Nachbar: Scale with Pub/Sub Abstract Decoupling components makes your life better, and a pub/sub-based architecture can be applied to many problem areas. Kafka is a great implementation tool that scales well and has a simple, straightforward API. Bio Erich Nachbar is the CTO of Quantifind and regularly tackles large-scale distributed computing problems. Darius Contractor: Nurturing Interest Abstract How do you make users click and come back? Learn how to nurture user interest, the fuel of web browsing. Increase their reserves by giving them interesting concepts, designs, and data. Maintain interest by minimizing user confusion and input. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the same optimizations can be applied to the development team on the project. Bio Darius Contractor has moved up the entire Silicon Valley stack from Programmer to Angel Investor. In the process he’s learned about viral user acquisition, systems scaling, agile management, rapid iteration, and the sweet spot between what works and what is possible. Kiranmayi Bhattaram: Backbone.js and Rails Abstract Web apps have been getting more JavaScript-heavy, and nested piles of callbacks are no fun. Backbone is a backend-agnostic library that helps you impose an MVC flavor on your JavaScript. Kiran will cover the basic components of Backbone and how to integrate it with your Rails app. Bio Kiran was an intern at AnythingSocial and is currently working on Place Pulse (http://pulse.media.mit.edu/) at the MIT Media Lab.
