More on SMART:
Founded in 1997, SMART provides students with access to educational opportunities, personal experiences, and social support services in order to foster academic excellence and community engagement. Our mission is to get 100% of our students to college, most of which will be the first in their family to attend college. Since 1997, we have worked with over 250 students. 92% of our high school graduates are currently pursuing a college degree and 100% are attending college-prep high schools.
Once accepted into the program, SMART works closely with independent middle school partners to secure placement and provides a three year scholarship (6th through 8th grade) to students who cannot otherwise afford the opportunities and resources of a private school education. We currently have 17 partner schools in the Bay Area, such as Cathedral School for Boys, the Hamlin School, and San Francisco Friends School, among others.
In addition to placement services, SMART also provides an array of wrap around social supports, including after school and summer school programming, individualized tutoring and mentoring, and high school placement supports. SMART also provides its high school scholars with a rigorous college access program to ensure that we are supporting them and their families on the path to a 4 year college.
