In March, the Invincible Czars will debut and perform their new score for the 1915 silent film Martyrs of the Alamo in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. Austin's Invincible Czars have written new music for silent movies for years, but never before for a western! The Czars have added their own unique spin to typical western movie soundtrack fare – odd meters, humor and lots of dynamics and different musical influences. Imagine a Morricone spaghetti western-style score to the galloping of a five-legged-horse with a smattering of Reverend Horton Heat and The Jesus Lizard thrown in for good measure.
As always, the band also draws influences from the classical music realm using the music of Copland, Tchaikovsky and even Fernando Sor as a springboard for their soundtrack. This score incorporates a Texas-sized mess of instruments including guitar, bass, flute, voice, clarinet, keyboards, violin, drums, and a banker’s box full of hand percussion instruments. Come see Austin’s most adventurous rock band do what they do best—combining classical influences with unique, eclectic original material, all set to the magic of the big screen!
