I am cycling 4,500 miles from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK to raise money for cancer research.
Why would I do such a thing? Because statistics show that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I can't sit still and be a statistic! I ride to change the odds.

I am doing it with an organization called Texas 4000 for Cancer, which selects a group of about 50 UT students every year to work together to plan the entire summer ride-- from the routes, rest stops, host families, food and product donations, training schedule, fundraising, etc. Everything is entirely student led and planned.
We recently pledged one million dollars to MD Anderson Cancer Research Center, and we are hoping to make more large donations like that in the future. But we can't do that without help. I am here asking for your help. Every rider must raise a minimun of $4,500 dollars (one dollar per mile) but my fundraising goal is $10,000. If you want to donate to the cause and help me reach my goal, there are two ways you can:
1. Online
View my profile and make a donation online at:
http://www.texas4000.org/user/profile/10430
2. By check
Pay to the order of “Texas 4000 for Cancer”, with "Sarah Sykes" in the memo line, and mail it to:
Texas 4000
901 S. Mopac Building
Barton Oaks Plaza One, Suite 300
Austin, TX 78746
No donation is too small, and it all goes to the fight against cancer. All donations are tax-deductible as we are a 501c3 non-profit.
Even if you are unable to donate at this time, there is still a very important way you can help. Every morning of the summer ride, we begin in a ride dedication circle in which each rider dedicates the day to someone they know affected by cancer. If you have anyone you would like me to 'ride for', please message me their name. These individuals are who inspire us to keep pedaling mile after mile, day after day and it would be an honor to ride for them.
If you have any questions about the ride (we are the longest annual charity bike ride in the WORLD), routes (there are two), where the money goes (most of it goes to MD Anderson cancer research center in Houston), or the organziation in general (our mission is to share hope knowledge and charity across North America) please reach out to me! I would love to share more about my story and learn more about yours.
Please invite others and spread the word!
