A recent report from McKinsey says that 190,000 Data Scientists are needed by 2019 in US alone. Another report from Greenplum/EMC has identified a looming shortfall of Data Scientists in the next five years. In addition, well known industry analysts from Gartner say that the Data Scientist role is "too elitist" -insert laughs here- and that "Big Data is merely data that's an order of magnitude greater than data you're accustomed to…Grasshopper." Really?
In the meantime, oblivious to all this, real Data Scientists from thriving startups are actually applying Data Science, creating data products, and disseminating new, open source data science tools, technologies, and methods (quite the opposite to elitist!)
In this meetup we will discuss a series of topics that were prompted at our last meetup:
What does a Data Scientist do?
Why do we need Data Scientists?
What is the "ideal" profile of a Data Scientist? Does that profile exist?
Does 1 developer + 1 statistician = 1 Data Scientist?
What's the difference between a data analyst, a business analyst and a Data Scientist?
How can a business analyst become a Data Scientist? Is that possible attending a course?
Join us this evening to meet other data scientists & data geeks, and find out how Data Scientists from startups are applying Data Science.
