Servathon 2012 with Greater DC Cares
Â
Join over 10,000 of our region's most dedicated community and corporate volunteers as we show our commitment to service at Servathon 2012. This year, Servathon volunteers will participate in nearly 100 service projects across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia, making this our largest Servathon ever! We are excited to bring meaningful service projects to our volunteers but more importantly, to the nonprofits and schools who need our support.
Servathon has a 20 year history of mobilizing thousands of area volunteers for two extraordinary days of service. Servathon volunteers make a lasting impact at nonprofits and schools in our region through generous and meaningful acts of service. Last year, Greater DC Cares (GDCC) engaged over 7,000 volunteers in service projects at over 50 nonprofits and schools.
Our groups goal is to raise $2000 and have 75+ of our members participate in this effort.
Â
What to expect?
Every year we try to choose a site with a good diversity of projects.  Service activities will involve beautifying and repairing interior and exterior of a DC public school.  We do not have a site yet but I will make sure we have both inside and outside projects.
Â
Examples of activities at this site will include: Â
Indoor projects:
Painting Mural in hallways and cafeterias
Painting rainbow lockers in classrooms Painting lockers
Touch up painting in hallways and stairwells
Painting classrooms and offices
Repainting bathroom stalls
Outdoor projects will include:
Planting trees, plants, and/or flowers
Assisting with playground enhancements
Painting exterior doors and railing
Touching up exterior paint of building
General Clean up and trash pickup
Painting 4-squares, hop scotches, and/or American Maps on playground
Post Project Party:Â
After the event finishes, GDCC will be hosting a party for all the participants of the Servathon. The Party location this year will be Ozio Lounge and Restaurant. All 4 levels will be open to Servathon Participants only. There will be free appetizers for the first hour and the party will continue with drink specials and a DJ until 6:00pm.Â

Â
The DC Servathon is a great opportunity to meet new people, see new parts of the region, and try something new.  You will leave feeling better than when you arrived as well as have a real sense of accomplishment. These events in particular are very powerful to me because you realize that you are doing something to further enrich these childrenâs lives and make their day better. The DC public schools are generally underfunded and these projects make all the difference in making sure that students and teachers can feel better about the school they study/work in. The teachers and administrative staff are especially appreciative of all the hard work we do.
