Dear IFMSA friends worldwide,
During the past period we've come to understand that many of you are having concerns about visiting Egypt.
We would like to state that whatever you watch on TV or read in newspaper and internet as expected by the majority of the media outlets- is not completely true.
They try to exaggerate what is really happening to get people’s attention, scare them, and let them feel that there is a huge disaster all over Egypt.
When we see photos of trouble events somewhere in the world, it can really influence our long held believes about that particular region or country.
Many people have lifelong dreams of traveling to Egypt and surround themselves with the country’s unique ancient history. We feel sorry that they have been misguided into believing that their dream country has become too unsafe to visit.
We -IFMSA Egypt Family - believe that it is our duty to help you realize the truth about the safety issue in Egypt. There is indeed some chaos in Tahrir square and the surrounding area, but those only form a small part o f the greater Cairo, which in turn is but a molecule on the map of Egypt. The majority of this very large country including Cairo is still unchanged and completely safe for tourists.
The streets near the Pyramids are full of tour buses. The nightlife vibe still has not left Cairo. Various cultural events are still taking place all around Cairo and the major cities, Schools and universities are still running normally. Plus, we as fellow medical students don’t want to carry the guilt if one of you got injured or harmed.
So, as long as we are telling you to come we guarantee to you that Egypt is safe. We care about the incoming exchange students and make sure that we are always available to ensure that they are safe, sound and enjoying their time, as well.
We have incoming students in Egypt nowadays and you can watch them speaking about the safety in Egypt and how they spent their time exploring the land of history.
On behalf of IFMSA Egypt family, we would like to thank all our friends worldwide for the solidarity they have shown, the warmth and sincerity of their feelings & wishes during the hard times. We would really appreciate it if you could please share this message with your mailing list.
Feel free to contact us for any particular information or questions & we will make sure to keep you updated with any important information.
Greetings from the land of freedom Egypt,
IFMSA-EGYPT Exchange Team.
