More than 2,000 health innovators from throughout the district and the nation will converge on Washington DC for this year’s DC Health Data & Innovation Week in early June.
This year’s week of events promises to be even bigger with more visibility than last year’s with participation now from several Wash DC-based organizations, NASA Human Health & Performance Center, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Washington DC-based Health Affairs, HealthCamp and Kaiser Permanente.
The activities kick off on Saturday June 2 & Sunday June 3 with a Health 2.0 Code-a-Thon at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health (www.centerfortotalhealth.org) where software developers and computer programmers team up with doctors, nurses, patients, technologists and researchers to rapidly create health applications focused on obesity prevention using geographic information data sets related to the determinants of health and obesity. The winning applications will be highlighted by HHS Chief Technology Officer Todd Park at his Health Datapalooza event later that week at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. On Monday June 4 is the HealthCamp DC unconference at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health from 8:30 am - 5 pm. The HealthCamp DC unconference brings together several hundred innovators, technologists, providers, patients, media and bloggers to spontaneously create the day's agenda and sessions focused on health innovation.
From 5 pm to 7 pm that day The Walking Gallery art event happens at the Center for Total Health, where 100+ people from around the world will display paintings on the back of their jackets created by Washington DC artist and patient advocate Regina Holliday and other local artists about patient experiences.
On Tuesday and Wednesday June 5 & 6 is The Health Data Initiative Forum III: The Health Datapalooza at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The event promises to bring together a diverse group of data experts, technology developers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, health care system leaders, and community advocates to support innovative application of health and health care data.
