ביום חמישי, 15 במרץ 2012 בשעה 20:00 תפתח בגלריה שלוש תערוכת היחיד של האמן תומר ספיר "טרה אינקוגניטה".
בתערוכה "טרה אינקוגניטה" מציג תומר ספיר עבודות פיסול, קונפיגורציות כמו אורגניות הנמצאות כל העת בהתהוות ומטשטשות את הגבול בין ההווה הרוחש לבין העבר הפרה-היסטורי.
טרה אינקוגניטה (ארץ הלא-נודע) הוא המונח הלטיני בו השתמשו בקרטוגרפיה לתיאור שטחי יבשה שעדיין לא מופו או תועדו. העולם שספיר מציג מקיים דואליות בין השימוש בטבע או חיקויו (ממצאים של חוקר, שאריות או דגימות שלוקטו, עקבות של מה שהיה) לבין מה שהוא במובהק מעשה ידי אדם (עבודות פיסול, שימוש בחומרים סינטטיים). ואולם דווקא הדואליות הזו מאפשרת חלל וזמן שבהם הפסלים/יצורים שלו יכולים להתקיים, תחום אפור שמקיים מתח בין היסטוריה, מיתולוגיה ובדיה.
תומר ספיר (נולד 1977, מתגורר ועובד בתל אביב) הוא אחד האמנים המובילים והמבטיחים של הדור הצעיר. בתערוכה הנוכחית בגלריה שלוש ספיר ממשיך מהלך שהחל בפרויקט המתמשך שלו "מחקר לקראת האינדקס הקריפטוטקסידרמי המלא" ומפתח את העיסוק שלו בקריפטידים (בעלי חיים שאין הוכחה מדעית לקיומם ואינם מופיעים באינדקס הזואולוגי הרשמי).

Tomer Sapir - Terra Incognita

On Thursday, March 15th, 2012 at 8 pm Tomer Sapir's solo exhibition "Terra Incognita" will open at Chelouche Gallery for Contemporary Art, 7 Mazeh St. Tel Aviv.
In his exhibition "Terra Incognita" Tomer Sapir features quasi-organic configurations which constantly evolve, blurring the boundaries between the bustling present and the prehistorical past.
Terra incognita (unknown land) is a Latin term used by cartographers to demarcate areas of land yet unmapped or undocumented. The world introduced by Sapir is underlain by a duality between the use or imitation of nature (the findings of a researcher, gathered leftovers or findings, traces of what once was) and what is quintessentially man-made (sculptural works, use of synthetic materials). It is precisely this dichotomy, however, which makes for a space and time where Sapir's sculptures/creatures may exist, a gray area which sustains a tension between history, mythology, and fiction.
Tomer Sapir (born 1977, lives and works in Tel Aviv) is a prominent and promising artist from the younger generation in the contemporary Israeli art scene. His diverse and broad corpus of works is refreshing and absorbing. In his current exhibition Sapir continues a process which was set in motion in his ongoing project "Research for the Full Crypto-Taxidermical Index," elaborating his engagement with cryptids (animals for which there is no scientific proof and which are not identified in the official zoological index).
