Join Chicago's Code For America Brigade and continue efforts in bringing communities together for a day of investigation and dialogue into civic technology and innovation in the City of the Chicago. If you were at last months event, here's an opportunity to invite new people and continue efforts on your ideas, projects, prototypes or applications. These events will be held monthly to continue to drive momentum and follow the vision of Code For America. Data: What civic data is important and how can one get it? Engagement: How can applications be designed to contextualize data and make it meaningful? Action: What is needed---of and beyond technology---to create change and innovation in the City of Chicago? Who should come? Everyone who cares about making government more open, accessible and engaged with its residents. We're bringing together Chicago's community, government, journalism, technology and business leaders, inventors, designers and software coders. AGENDA: 1:00-1:30pm Registration & Networking 1:30-2:00pm Opening presentation by Maria Scileppi - Data Visualization: Maria's mission is to visualize the world - one data portrait at a time. She uses custom software to visualize social interations and will present and demo some of her work related to data usage. 2:00-2:15pm Featured App: Crime Alert App - Presentation by Mahrinah von Schlegel: Crime Alert is a mobile app and web based resource, utilizing both police and community-sourced crime data to help allow our communities to fill in the blanks in crime data, keep each other more aware and ultimately safer. 2:15-5:00pm Breakout groups: Join the Brigade to work on apps already in progress, build new stuff, learn more about open government data or join the IdeaHack roundtable discussion to create ideas to make Chicago even more awesome!
