The talk

Games user research (GUR) encompasses a broad array of methods for assessing players' experience in order to improve the design of video games. During the last several years, the body of knowledge in this field has increased significantly in both academia and industry.

In this talk, I'll present a mixed method approach employing cutting edge techniques for collecting cognitive, emotional, and behavioural data from gamers during playing sessions. I will present examples of sessions done at EA Sports, describing the different techniques while emphasizing their strengths and limitations

Speaker

Veronica Zammitto is a Games User Researcher at Electronic Arts Canada. Her background is rooted in psychology, HCI, and game studies which ideally positions her to understand game user experience. She holds a Master in Interactive Arts and Technology. Veronica has written numerous scientific articles on game research, including user experience, gamers' demographics, usability, and believable characters. She has presented at international conferences in North and South America, Europe, and Asia, including venues like GDC, CHI, DiGRA, and Cybergames.

Veronica's main research goal is to better understand players' reactions and to provide feedback to game developers with actionable data to ensure informed decision during the game development process.

Cost

We are going to be charging everyone $10 to attend the event. All money collected for the event will be used to purchase appetizers at the social event after (we will run it at zero profit). Hopefully you will join us for a fun evening!
