Disconnect is a documentary about the possible health effects from long-term exposure to cell phone radiation. For over a decade, the debate has been waged by the $7 trillion telecommunications industry and the scientists they hired who've reported biological effects. Recently, politicians across the globe have passed bills making information available about safer ways people can use their phones.
In 2010, San Francisco passed a cell phone safety bill but for the past two years has been fighting a lawsuit filed by the industry saying the bill is in violation of their freedom of speech as corporations.
Through interviews with physicians, researchers, politicians and industry leaders, Disconnect traces the rise of the unregulated industry and unveils the interplay of scientific research and corporate responsibility. Globally, there are 6 billion cell phone subscriptions. Some researchers insist that the radiation cell phones emit causes sperm damage, and even cancer. Others believe, according to the current state of knowledge, impossible.
