April's Digital Berkshire sees us return to the home of Digital Berkshire - South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell at 7pm on Thursday 19th April, 2012. We are lucky enough to have Chris Clark join us as our speaker for the evening. Chris Clark is Head of Digital Research and the Digital Curator Team at The British Library. The position and team were created in 2010 as part of a general restructuring of operations to support the British Library's ten-year strategy, 2020 Vision
http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/stratpolprog/2020vision/index.html Chris has occupied many posts in a career spanning more than thirty years with the Library, including Jazz Curator (1980s) and Head of Cataloguing and Public Services for the Sound Archive (1990s). His talk, Digital Engagements, will feature some of the innovative projects and services that are emerging around a deeper engagement with Digital as the British Library's strategy unfolds and how this in turn changes the organisation and how people perceive it. He will talk about the early positioning and work of the Digital Curator Team and some of the technologies it seeks to embrace to improve digital affordances and digital literacy, including opportunities for crowd-sourcing. He will also mention services that are breaking new ground for libraries, such as the Business and Intellectual Property Centre and the Management & Business Studies Portal. We have had a sneak preview of what Chris will be covering and this is definitely not an event to be missed! We anticipate lots of demand for tickets, so please get in quick, but only book what you need and do let us know if you can't make it so that we can release your ticket to someone else. Finally, if you have any suggestions for future Digital Berkshire speakers, venues or sponsors, please let us know - speak to Jocelyn from Metakinetic (@JocelynKirby), Jeff from Rawnet(@JeffScott2009), Martin from South Hill Park (_MartinFranklin) or James from The MC Group(@JMonjack). We look forward to welcoming you to Digital Berkshire in April!
