“Once you choose hope, anything is possible.” ~ Christopher Reeve
On June 1st, 2013, 70 fellow friends from the University of Texas and I will hop on our bikes and ride the more than 4,500 miles from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK. We are all a part of the LIVESTRONG Texas 4000 for Cancer Team 2013, a student run organization that completes the world’s longest charity bike ride across the United States and Canada every year in order to spread Hope, Knowledge, and Charity to as many people as possible.
We will spread Hope to those who have fought or are fighting cancer, as well as to those who have had friends and family affected by cancer. We will spread Knowledge by giving presentations along the way at cities, towns, schools, churches, and community meetings in order to educate people about early detection and prevention. In order to spread Hope and Knowledge to as many people as possible, our team will split into three routes for the first time ever. Along with the two traditional routes, Sierra and Rockies, we will have the first ever Heartland route.
My teammates and I will spend the next year planning all the details for our entire summer. We will be responsible for finding housing and food along the way, securing media opportunities, preparing a program, volunteering, and training. However, we can't do it alone. In order to make this trip successful, we need your help.
Our last pillar is Charity. This is where y’all come in! Each rider is responsible for raising one dollar per mile, or $4500. Over the past 9 years, Texas 4000 has been able to donate millions of dollars to MD Anderson cancer research and treatment hospital in Houston, TX as well as to UT Biomedical Engineering seed projects, which look for new and improved cancer treatments. With your help, I’d like to raise my personal goal of $10,000.
If you are able to donate, there are four ways you can do so:
1. Message me your address and I will send you my personal fundraising letter, donation form, and return envelope.
2. Write a check: pay to the order to “Texas 4000 for Cancer,” with “Kelsey Aubrey” in the memo line, and mail it to:
Texas 4000
901 S. Mopac Building
Building 1, Suite 300
Austin, TX 78746
3. Online: you can visit this page and donate directly:

4. In person: I’d love to meet with you and hear your stories and share my own. Let me know if you’d like to meet up!
All donations are 100% tax deductible since we are a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit.
Whether or not you are able to donate, please tell your friends, family, and coworkers. The more people that know about our mission the better! If you’d like to keep up with my journey, you can check out my rider profile here:

In addition, we dedicate every workout we do, every meeting we have, and every day of our journey to someone we know who has dealt with cancer. I would love to hear your story and remember you or your loved one along the way. Please send me an email at kelseyaubrey@utexas.edu or a Facebook message, so that I can share what you have to say. Y’all are our inspiration!
Health and happiness,
Kelsey
