Crowd-sourced Skepticism

Skeptics have embraced the Internet, there are hundreds of skeptical blogs and podcasts these days. And with good reason, there's a great deal of misinformation out there to counteract. But successful blogging and podcasting takes a huge commitment of time. Are the rest of us relegated to mere spectators to skepticism on the net? No! Our speaker will outline several different ways that skeptics can make online contributions, five minutes at a time, from the comfort and safety of their Internet-connected homes. Conditions permitting, some of these techniques will be demonstrated live.

Tim Farley is a Research Fellow for the James Randi Educational Foundation on the topic of electronic media. He has been quoted in BYTE, The New York Times, the Montreal Gazette and elsewhere. He has written for Skeptical Inquirer, LAN Times, PC Techniques and ASP.NET Pro Magazine. He is best known among skeptics as the creator of the website What's the Harm? (whatstheharm.net) which collects stories of people who have been harmed by beliefs in pseudoscience, the paranormal or just plain misinformation. He blogs at skeptools.com and randi.org.
