CURANDERISMO is a traditional holistic medicine combining the use of medicinal plants, “limpias” (energetic or spiritual cleansings), indigenous massage, ritual, and ceremony. It views the person as body-mind-heart-spirit. It also takes into consideration the role of the family, community, and nature in bringing about internal and external balance and harmony. Although influenced by various healing traditions, the practice of Curanderismo is grounded in ancient Mesoamerican medicine.

Maestras Doris and Felipa are teachers at Centro De Desarollo Humano Hacia la Communidad (CEDEHC) Institute in Cuernavaca, Mexico, a center dedicated to the preservation and teaching of traditional knowledge. These two women are making a special Bay Area appearance to share their expertise in healing & curanderismo.
Doris learned to work with plants from her grandmother who was a healer for more than 20 years. She has diplomas in psychotherapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, massage therapy, and medicinal plants. Doris has an extensive knowledge of medicinal plants, including their spiritual and scientific components. In addition to teaching, Doris also runs a community clinic.
Felipa began her journey in curanderismo when she met a curandera who healed her from an illness that western medicine could not cure. This curandera became her teacher. Felipa continued her journey and became an amazing practitioner who incorporates, channeling, herbal knowledge, bodywork, energy work and spiritual tuning. In her earlier years she walked, one month of the year to rural parts of Mexico, providing services to those who had no access to medical care.
