The Lightbox — powered by Pink Line Project — will shine a celebratory spotlight on DC’s emerging creative community by hosting the launch party of the inaugural LUMEN8Anacostia festival, activating the former Metropolitan Police Department evidence warehouse in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, illuminating the arts, culture, and entertainment emanating from Our Nation's Capital.
For twelve hours (12 p.m. to 12 a.m.) inside the Lightbox, you'll find:
‣ Temporary retail stores like the SHAM Shop, a mini DC Record Fair hosted by Som Records, vintage finds from Hella Tuff, art exhibitions from Art Under Pressure and Artuare (Steven M. Cummings), graffiti murals by Ozker and Cuzzin' Greg — and Pixie by Pleatherette, an immersive pop-up boutique featuring ten DC-based accessories designers, including bow ties by Eliot Payne, jewelry by PhulEffect and Rachel Pfeffor Designs, and fascinators by CIAO NINA
‣ A pop-up restaurant by Busboys & Poets, offering a select menu and café seating
‣ Daytime musical performances curated by CapitalBop
‣ Late night DJ sets hosted by L'Alliance Française
‣ A walk-through interactive installation by BLUEBRAIN
‣ A massive fourth-floor installation by internationally-renowned multimedia artist Monica Canilao as part of the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities' 5x5 Project
‣ Performance art curated by Eames Armstong and Aether Art Projects

9-10pm | A live performance by electronic music supergroup Volta Bureau, featuring Will Eastman, Outputmessage, and Micah Vellian
10-11pm | French symphonic composer Koudlam, courtesy of L'Alliance Française
11-12am | French electronic music artist Rone, courtesy of L'Alliance Française
A second, street-level stage in front of the Lightbox will feature:
12-1pm | A performance by THEARC students of the Washington Ballet
1-2 pm | African heritage dance and drumming led by locally-renowned Southeast DC-based performer Melvin Deal
2-5 pm | A live jazz "jam session" with pianist Hope Udobi, bassist Eric Wheeler, and drummer Warren "Trae" Crudup III
