Capital Cause has kicked off its first cycle of Giving Circles Projects - a campaign that recruits members and young philanthropist supporters to contribute their skills toward completing 60-day, high-impact service projects that produce measurable results! WHAT IS #LOADSOFLOVE LAUNDRY DAY? One Giving Circles Group - the Boots on the Ground Team - was given the challenge of planning a service program that benefited 50 low-income families living in Ward 8, where the poverty rate is 35%! Their solution was to work with case managers in Ward 8 schools to identify families that struggled with paying their laundry expenses in order to plan a Free Community Laundry Day (#LoadsOfLove). WHY PLAN A LAUNDRY DAY? In Ward 8, the unemployment rate is 25.2%. This high number directly influences the number of children living in poverty - which is an alarming 48%. According to Ward 8 case managers, children sometimes go to school in unwashed clothes because their parents cannot afford to wash their clothes on a monthly basis. The #LoadsOfLove Laundry Day will provide temporary relief to these families by footing the laundry bill for the day.
