The Krewe Eris is an independent marching krew in New Orleans that supports art and all forms of gender expressions--each year it has a parade during NOLA's Carnival season. Jules Bentley best describes the parade: "For many of its participants, the yearly Krewe of Eris parade is a highlight of New Orleans' Carnival season. Named after the Greek Goddess of Discord, this unpermitted, anarchic open-to-all foot parade is an explosion of creativity and beautiful costuming that runs wild through downtown, clogging streets in boisterous celebration of unrule."
However, last year, the Eris parade was interrupted by the police, who beat, pepper sprayed, tazed, incarcerated, and falsely charged many of the group's members. The 12 members who were arrested have been slammed with legal fees and need help. This is where we want to step in--groups in Oakland and NYC have thrown benefits to raise funds, and Chicago can do its part.
