The city held a hearing on a proposed contract with NeuStar for the marketing and operation of the .nyc TLD on March 23. We've called the so called "public hearing" a sham, as the subject of the hearing, the contract between NeuStar and the City was not available for review. (See the sorry details here.)
So we don't know how New Yorkers qualify to acquire a name, what opportunities there are for the city's tech community to participate, how it will affect mom and pop businesses, our neighborhoods, what the governance process is to be, etc.
Join us this and every Thursday from 10-11 AM at what we're calling "Tea and city TLDs." The meeting is held on my Google+ Hangout. (Email me if you're new to G+.)
Some weeks we have special guests and more focused meetings, like this one, held on September 8. In those instances we might limit general question time. But there's a chat feature and one of our supporters might answer general questions. That's Thursdays from 10-11 AM (New York City time).
Best,
Tom Lowenhaupt
