Calling all street journalists, live-tweeters, livestreamers, live bloggers, writers, photographers and videographers! As May Day quickly approaches, it’s time to get together to talk tactics!
This meeting is an open discussion for us to talk about our strategies to ensure the best coverage of actions on May Day. Suggested agenda topics include:
-Coordination: Review the schedule of events and discuss how we might avoid clumping up on actions, both to provide widespread coverage and to avoid potential arrests of too many street journalists in one spot. (While understanding that we are autonomous individuals and are free to follow the actions where they take us.)
- Affinity groups/partners: Some people may already have AGs, but if you don't, and want one, we can make connections at this meeting. (For example, a livestreamer teamed with a live-tweeter.) Also, discuss what an affinity group/partnership does and review tactics for watching each others' backs.
- Equipment: Discuss how we can share resources and make sure everyone has what they need to keep tweeting/streaming/filming throughout the day.
- Announcement from legal folks and NYCLU about how street journalists can help them document rights abuses by the authorities.
Any other items for discussion are welcome! Let’s all share our thoughts and ideas about how to be safe out there while providing news and info to the whole world that will be watching!
